Understanding well integrity is important to make critical decisions during drilling and completion operations. By examining the bond between the casing and the cement pumped into the wellbore annulus, we are able to determine if remedial work is required before completing the well. Such information can be obtained by running cement bond logging tools. In this particular case Baker Hughes was going to run their Integrity eXplorer™, a cement bond logging tool, to evaluate an injector well.
The Baker Hughes Integrity eXplorer™ logging tool uses patented electromagnetic-acoustic transducers capable of measuring the cement bond in any wellbore fluid environment. However, previous experiences with the tool have revealed that it collects a lot of magnetic swarf. The magnetic swarf has also influenced the set-up of the tool, which makes the operator use more time than necessary on this operation.
By applying the MD 5500 magnet in front of the logging tool, the Innovar magnet was able to secure most of the magnetic swarf, keeping the swarf attached to the Integrity eXplorer™ to a bare minimum. This resultet in reduced time on tool set up and therefore, reduced rig time.
