Over the last few years, there have been several major accidents in regards to offshore helicopter transportation, which has led to an increase in rules and regulations. We at Innovar Solutions have safety as our highest priority when it comes to air traffic transport of products considered dangerous material. Magnetic material being one of these items considered dangerous material. This is why we have developed a new form of shielding for our magnets.

With our new technology of magnetic shielding, we have been able to shield one of our most powerful magnets, namely the 5,75” Fishing Magnum Magnet®, for offshore helicopter transportation. Not only have we been able to shield this powerful magnet, we have also kept the total weight of the magnet and shielding combined under the 60kg limit set forth by the helicopter industry.

The Magnet

The 5,75” Fishing Magnum Magnet®, model FM 116L, is a laser focused fishing magnet. It can be run as a fishing magnet or in advance, to remove debris that could adversely affect a tools performance. The Magnum magnet is constructed with one massive magnet element. The elements are specially designed for Innovar to make it highly magnetic and stronger than regular magnets. It is built as one piece to prevent the tool from failing and it is also equipped with circulation ports. For drill pipe with a NC 38 box connection, a lifting capacity of 700 kg and with a total weight of the magnet and the shielding combined of 58kg.
