When running a casing into a horizontal well the end
of the casing may hit on edges left
by irregular drilling or washouts. This may wear
down or damage the end of the casing.
In a long well this may in the worst case reduce the
practical maximum length the
casing can be run.
If the end section of the casing would bend upwards,
so that the end point would lift a
few inches, it would slide over such irregular
restrictions with much less friction.
